2007 Sept Fishing Trip
Back To News Letter

This year was a fun year. I finally got the cabin moved to my lot and we used it for a base camp for the whole week. It was a small group once again, just Chet Atkins came up but we had a blast. Unlike last year the Pink Salmon weren't running, so we concentrated on Silver Salmon. The run was late, but we did well enough.

Jeff Webster was our guide once again, and as slow as the fishing was we still caught our limits while fishing with Jeff. Chet had a special day. He caught a 40 Lb King Salmon we had to release, since the season was closed, a steelhead which supposedly don't exist in the Kenai,  and a 14 lb. Silver, a preverbial hat trick for the river, all in all it was a great day.

Since the fishing was a bit slow, we got a chance to do a little site seeing and ran down to Homer for lunch and made a day of it.

Every day was a wildlife adventure. Several days near dusk, we would take my little boat and putt around the far end of Beck Lake. There were Moose, Beavers and Eagles in abundance nearly every time we went. The road into the cabin was a daily adventure. In one spot is a tiny creek Daniels Creek. It is barely two feet wide, but this time of year it to abounds with a late run of Sockeye Salmon, and the bears readily feed on them. On several occassions we found black and brown bears fishing in the creek. Perched above were bald eagles waiting on their turn , and to scarf up any left overs.

All in all it was a fun week. I look forward tonext year already:)
